Objective:
The primary objective is to establish a training experience in Interventional Pulmonology (IP) that will serve the needs of local patients.
IP is a subspecialty in the field of pulmonary medicine that is gaining significant visibility in both academic and community settings. By utilizing advanced minimally invasive techniques, an interventional pulmonologist provides sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic options for all types of airway, lung and pleural pathologies.
Minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic chest disease services are a tremendous asset to a multidisciplinary practice environment. The close interactions of IP with thoracic surgery, oncology, radiation oncology, general pulmonary and lung transplantation, provide the broadest array of clinical options for patient airway and chest disease needs.

Goals:
1) Observe the clinical approach to patients with complex airway and pleural diseases, lung cancer and post-lung transplant airway complications.
2) Training in rigid and flexible bronchoscopy using simulation techniques at HMS.
3) Training in chest ultrasound, thoracentesis, pig tail catheter, Pleur-X catheter and chest tube placement using simulation techniques HMS.
4) Training in rigid bronchoscopy, flexible bronchoscopy, and pleuroscopy in patients at the Thoraxklinik in Heidelberg, Hôpital Nord in Marseille and Clinica Alemana in Santiago.
4) Participate in clinical, translational or basic science research.
5) Attend Interventional Pulmonology Courses at HMS and Marseille.
